Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 July 2026
CheckMyDate is built on a simple principle: privacy, transparency and safety matter. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use and protect it, when it may be shared with service providers, and the choices available to you.
We aim to collect and use only the information reasonably necessary to provide, operate, secure and improve the CheckMyDate service.
What we collect
When you create an account, we may collect basic account information such as your name, email address and authentication information.
When you run a public search report, we may collect the information you choose to provide about the person being searched, including their name, phone number, email address, social media handles and any photo you upload. We also store the generated report and your search history so that you can access them through your account.
When you use the notify-a-friend feature, we collect the information you provide about your date plans, including the venue, address and time, together with the email address of the friend or trusted contact you nominate.
We may also automatically collect limited technical and usage information necessary to operate, secure, analyse and improve the service, such as IP address, browser or device information, pages visited, interactions with the service and analytics data.
How we use information
We may use information to:
- create and manage your account;
- generate public search reports and AI-assisted analysis;
- save reports to your account history;
- enable you to email or download reports;
- provide the notify-a-friend safety feature;
- process payments and transactions;
- send you emails about your report, including a notification when a report is ready, a reminder before an unclaimed report is deleted, and a confirmation once it has been removed, as well as occasional safety and product updates (you can unsubscribe at any time);
- operate, maintain, secure and improve the service;
- prevent fraud, misuse and unauthorised access;
- understand how the service is used through analytics; and
- comply with applicable legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information to advertisers or use information about the people you search for to create advertising profiles.
AI and automated processing
CheckMyDate uses artificial intelligence and automated technologies to help analyse information and generate reports.
Information submitted as part of a check may be processed by technology and AI service providers acting on our behalf where necessary to provide the service. We take reasonable steps to use service providers that maintain appropriate privacy and security safeguards.
CheckMyDate reports are intended to provide additional information and identify potential warning signs. They should not be treated as a guarantee of a person's identity, character, background or safety.
People you search for
When you conduct a check, you may provide personal information about another person. You should only submit information that you are legally permitted to use and should not use CheckMyDate for harassment, stalking, discrimination or any unlawful purpose.
CheckMyDate uses submitted information only for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy and does not use people who are searched to create advertising or marketing profiles.
Who can see your checks
Each public search report is linked to the account of the user who created it and is not available to other CheckMyDate users.
Authorised personnel may access information where reasonably necessary to operate, maintain, secure, investigate misuse of, or provide support for the service.
Trusted technology providers may also process information on our behalf where necessary to provide services such as hosting, AI processing, analytics, authentication, payments and email delivery.
Notify-a-friend feature
When you choose to notify a friend, CheckMyDate sends an email containing the date details and safety information you have chosen to share to the email address you specify.
The nominated email address is used to provide this feature and is not used for marketing purposes.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have a legitimate reason to provide the nominated person's email address.
Analytics and cookies
We may use cookies and similar technologies to operate the website, understand how users interact with the service, measure performance and improve the user experience.
This may include analytics services provided by third parties. These services may collect information such as device details, browser information, approximate location derived from IP address, pages visited and interactions with the service.
Service providers and overseas processing
We may use trusted third-party providers to support functions including hosting, AI processing, analytics, authentication, payments and email delivery.
Some providers may process or store information outside Australia. Where required, we take reasonable steps to ensure that personal information is handled consistently with applicable privacy obligations.
Data retention and deletion
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, meet legitimate operational requirements, comply with legal obligations and resolve disputes.
You can delete individual public search reports from your history. When a report is deleted, the associated stored report and subject details will be removed from active account access, subject to limited retention where reasonably necessary for backups, security, fraud prevention or legal compliance.
You may also request deletion of your account and associated personal information by contacting us.
Reports run without an account (guest reports) are retained for 24 hours after they are generated and then permanently deleted. If a guest report is not linked to an account within that period, we may send the requester a notification when the report is ready, a reminder shortly before it is deleted, and a confirmation once it has been removed. The email address provided by a guest is retained so we can deliver these messages and may be used to send occasional safety and product updates; guests can unsubscribe from these emails at any time.
Data security
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
These measures may include encrypted connections, access controls and restrictions on access to production systems. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure. OAIC guidance requires covered entities to take reasonable steps to protect personal information they hold.
Your privacy rights
Subject to applicable law, you may request access to personal information we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate information or request deletion of your account and associated records.
To make a privacy request, contact us using the details below.
Privacy complaints
If you have a concern or complaint about how we handle personal information, please contact us first so that we can investigate and respond.

We will aim to acknowledge and respond to privacy complaints within a reasonable period.
Where applicable, if you are not satisfied with our response, you may have the right to contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services, technology, legal requirements or data-handling practices.
When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. Where appropriate, we may provide additional notice of material changes.
